Is Ventile windproof?
Ventile is a long staple cotton fabric of the highest quality. It was developed in World War II for high altitude clothing for the RAF. It is a natural fibre naturally, soft, windproof and incredibly hard wearing.
Who invented Ventile?
Ventile was invented in the late 1930s at the Shirley Institute, a cotton research centre in Manchester that also developed the tog measurement for insulation. Its original purpose wasn’t clothing but fire hoses.

Can you iron Ventile?
Machine wash one item at a time in warm water on a gentle cycle using pure liquid soap. Ensure all residue soap is removed from the garment, re-rinse if necessary. Reshape the garment on a hanger and allow to dry naturally avoiding direct sunlight. Iron carefully on a warm setting – this reactivates the DWR treatment.

What is middling cotton?
Middling cotton is considered the median and is used as the standard to measure all other grades of cotton. It is a fleecy cotton with very small amounts of debris and is nearly white. In the United States, good middling cotton (symbolized by GM) is considered the best grade.
