How did the SF Giants get their name?
San Francisco’s team started out as the New York Gothams in their early days. After a rousing victory in 1885, the team’s manager referred to his players as “My Giants!” The team quickly changed from Gothams to the Giants, and kept the name when they moved out west to San Francisco in 1957.
