To start, “choose two or more colors that you like together, making sure at least one color has some translucency. If you want to use a more opaque color, put that on as the first coat and add sheer levels over that. From there, the options are infinite!”
Can you layer Shellac?

What is the difference between overlay and Shellac?
Whilst gel overlays involve the application of the gel directly to the natural nail, gel nail extensions involve applying an artificial tip to the end of the nail to add length, Overlays can also be applied to toenails. Shellac, overlays and gel nail extensions are all cured under a UV lamp.
Can you do three coats of Shellac?
Three to four coats is generally enough to give the work a fully protective coat. The first coat seals the wood and the second gives it enough body to sand, level and recoat without cutting through these base coats. The first coat can be applied with a rag or a brush, depending on the surface area you want to coat.
Can you mix shellac Colours?
To create new Shellac gel polish by mixing colours I placed one drop of grape gum and one drop of studio white onto the nail and then used a clean nail brush to mix the colours on the nail. I was extremely careful to make sure I did the mixing a ratio of 1:1, so all the nails looked the same colour.
Do you sand between each coat of shellac?
You do not need to sand between shellac coats, but it can seriously improve the piece’s finish. That is because small imperfections like specks of dust get bigger and bigger every time you add a new coat. Shellac will bond with the coat under it, making one layer. Not sanding can leave you with a lumpy finish.

What is CND overlay?
Overlays do not extend the length of the nails. The Brisa or Brisa Lite Removable Smoothing Gel is layered over the natural nail and is ideal for nails that are thin, weak, chipped, split, ridgy or nails that just won’t grow. The gel shields them and allows them to grow and strengthen below.
Should you sand between coats of shellac?
You should always lightly sand in between coats of shellac with sandpaper in the range of 320 to 400. Doing this helps the next coat to stick on better, and it also removes any flaws that may have been created in the application process. This ensures that small flaws don’t compound over time.
